Economic conditions in Nevada have undoubtedly improved over the past 12 months, although not as quickly as some would like. The state’s employment base expanded by one percent year over year; however, the ranks of the unemployed remained at a nation-leading 12.7 percent in January.

Leisure and hospitality employment contin­ues to account for the lion’s share of Nevada’s new job creation, adding 11,400 positions dur­ing the past 12 months. Roughly 10,500 of those new leisure jobs were generated in the southern region of the state, where record visitor volume totals are forecast for 2012.
